Episcopal Study Support Programme Cusanuswerk

The following requirements must be met in order to participate in the selection procedures of the Cusanuswerk:

  • Excellent professional performance and interdisciplinary interest
  • Strong sense of social responsibility, volunteerism, creativity, openness and reflectiveness
  • Membership in the Catholic Church (applicants belonging to a non-United Orthodox or Ancient Oriental Church are eligible for application after individual assessment), a lived Christian faith and the willingness to help shape the Church
  • German nationality; foreign first-year students can be admitted to the selection procedure if they have been admitted after § 8 Abs. 1-3 of the BAföG can receive training support

    Please note: This is about the basic eligibility to receive funding, not about whether you personally actually receive or would receive BAföG based on your parents’ income!

  • German language skills of at least level B2 (CEFR).
  • Abitur or university entrance qualification entitling the holder to study at a state or state-recognised university of applied sciences.
  • Registration for the first semester selection procedure must be completed by 01.07. directly to the Cusanuswerk. After that, all further information follows.
  • Applications for higher semesters are possible at any time via the online form at the Cusanuswerk, by 01.08 at the latest.
  • The KHG takes on an expert opinion, which is an important building block in the selection process.

KAAD – Scholarship Programme 2

The following prerequisites must be met for an application:

  • Originating from a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, the Middle East or Latin America,
  • Study in Germany, duration of study at least another 10 months
  • Master’s degree programme (application possible in the final semesters of the Bachelor’s degree), a Diplom or Magister degree programme (application after intermediate examination or Vordiplom at the earliest) or a doctorate at a German higher education institution.
  • Catholic denomination (or, especially from the Near and Middle East, belong to a Christian denomination). Applicants from another religion can be promoted if they are proposed by Catholic partners in view of a documentable willingness to engage in interreligious dialogue.
  • Knowledge of the German language at least at a communication level.
  • An above-average performance potential for studies or research
  • the orientation of studies or research towards permanent reintegration into your home region (otherwise the scholarship is considered a loan),
  • church and social commitment or willingness to engage in interreligious dialogue

An application can only be made via the KHG and, in view of the extensive application documents (especially expert reports etc.), takes several months!

AMHV

The Albertus Magnus- and Hildegardis-Verein grants scholarships to Catholic students at universities and colleges of education who are in the final stages of their studies and, with the help of the foundation, can complete their studies with good results. Theology scholarships are funded by the Archbishop Hermann Foundation of the Archdiocese of Freiburg: www.katholische-stiftungen-freiburg.de. The Foundation’s Board of Directors decides on the awarding of scholarships.

Formal requirements:

  • You are studying at a university in the Archdiocese of Freiburg and have good to very good grades (no doctoral studies).
  • You are in the final phase of your studies (funding period max. 12 months).
  • You are Catholic, German (exceptions possible) and committed.

Amount of the scholarship:
Between 100 euros and 400 euros per month (earliest funding from 1 June, funding ends no later than 31 July of the following year).

The application deadline is 31 March each year.
